    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to create and test the practical application of the business process management maturity assessment based on a case study. Maturity models are used for measuring the performance and maturity of individual functional areas or processes, as well as that of the whole organization. We propose measuring the maturity of business process management on a sample of 47 employees of one organization at two different grade levels: at the Management level and at the Professionals level. The comparative analysis of business process management maturity was performed using an ANOVA test, which allowed the evaluation of differences between the groups of respondents and using correlation matrix, which assesses the strength of the correlation between the business process maturity in the organization and six process areas (Strategy, Documentation, Optimization, Implementation, Execution, Controlling), which are constituent the maturity. The analysis of differences in the perception of business process management maturity through different employees may help better prioritize BPM development projects in an organization. The findings will be the basis for formulating recommendations for the effective raising of the business process management maturity. Effects of BPM on ERP Adoption in the Public Sector

    Get PDF
The study examines how Business Process Management (BPM) affects the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) adoption in the public sector with regard to the three main phases: planning, implementation, and post-implementation of the system. The research method is a multiple case study with data collection using mainly semi-structure interviews with internal ERP users. The units of analysis are three public sector institutions chosen due to their implementation of the ERP system. Research findings confirm that ERP implementation conducted without BPM initiatives is used in the public sector to cement antiquated, less than optimal methods of data flow, documentation flow, decision flow and workflow. Research also shows that the adoption of ERP partially contributes to the launch of BPM initiatives in public sector institutions. This study has value for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of public sector organizations which are obligated to operate in a cost effective manner

The purpose of this study is to point out the gap in the digital competence between SMEs in Poland and the European Union. For this evaluation the Eurostat database was used. A literature review in relation to organizational competence allowed the definition of digital literacy contained in the broadly defined ICT competence. Digital tools simplify and accelerate decision making processes throughout the management chain (EDI, ERP systems); allow the carrying out of more effective business analyses (cloud computing); facilitate transactions (e-commerce/e-invoicing), allow effective image and branding building (CRM systems, social media), facilitate penetration of new markets and reachingnew customers (e-commerce, CRM). The inference refers to the degree of digitization of SMEs in selected areas, and diagnosis of the digital skills gap in Polish small and medium-sized enterprises. The results of the analysis can be a starting point in building recommendations regarding the use of modern information and communication technologies by SMEs. Business Process Management in Transition Economies: Current Research Landscape and Future Opportunities

    Get PDF
Business Process Management (BPM) is an approach of improving organizational performance by managing and optimizing business processes. While BPM is extremely popular in mature economies, reports are scarce about its use in transition economies, which are countries in the process of moving from a centrally planned economic system to a market-driven system. To assess the current research landscape on BPM in transition economies, we conduct a systematic literature review and use the six core elements of BPM framework for the analysis of 29 papers. Our review confirms the early stage of research on BPM in transition economies; two factors, People and Culture, are hardly examined. Furthermore, we propose to extend the six core elements of BPM framework by adding two key factors: External Environment and Ownership of Organization. The resulting eight core elements of BPM framework provides a robust theoretical foundation while pointing to multiple avenues for future research

The purpose of this paper is to create and test the practical application of a business process management maturity assessment conducted at two different grade levels (management and professional level) in an organization. The conceptual framework for this research includes creating a business process maturity indicator (BPMI) for six process areas: strategy, documentation, optimization, implementation, execution, and controlling. The comparative analysis of the business process management maturity is performed using the BPMI on two cases: inside a single organization and the sector internally.Namen tega prispevka je narediti in testirati praktično aplikacijo za presojanje zrelosti menedžmenta poslovnih procesov na dveh različnih ravneh (na menedžerski in strokovni ravni) v organizaciji. Konceptualni okvir za to raziskavo vključuje izdelavo indikatorja zrelosti poslovnih procesov za šest procesnih področij, tj. strateško, dokumentacijsko, optimizacijsko, implementacijsko, izvedbeno in nadzorno. Za primerjalno analizo zrelosti menedžmenta poslovnih procesov smo uporabili indikator zrelosti poslovnih procesov, in sicer v okviru posamezne organizacije in sektorja

Modelling and understanding of business processes are incorporated in the critical catalogue of competencies, a process-oriented organisation. Business process management (BPM) has been included in the National Development Strategy, 2020 and has become one of the pillars of increasing efficiency and effectiveness in the public sector. In this context, it is important to diagnose BPM competencies to identify gaps and to develop knowledge and skills of employees. Competencies can be a crucial competitive advantage in BPM projects. Adequate competencies provide a correct understanding of the processes and their representation in a form understandable to key stakeholders of a project. This paper presents the concept and diagnosis of competence evaluation in the matters of selected Business Process Modelling Notations (EPC, BPMS, BPMN) and a selfassessment of knowledge and skills in this field. The analysis of understandability of the chosen notations has been carried out using both comprehension tests and a single factor ANOVA test. The results of the study may contribute to the development and improvement of BPM competencies of the employees involved in projects that require complex understanding and modelling processes. The identification of knowledge gaps may result in an increase in the maturity level of public institutions

Process approach in the teaching of accounting: how to stimulate entrepreneurship in micro-entrepreneurs

    No full text
This article emphasises the influence that the quality and information capacity of the chosen form of accounting have on both, the micro-enterprise development opportunities, and the entrepreneurial behavior of their respective owners. Highlighted in a survey conducted among university students and academics is the role of accounting system information, and the legal and tax regulations within business processes practically implemented in the organisation. The paper proposes the concept of training young entrepreneurs in the field of accounting using process approach to management. On the basis of examples of processes in the area of accounting, there are presented the clear advantages of process modeling with the aim of reducing risk, and identifying tax and balance sheet consequences of micro-enterprise management decisions. The need to understand business processes, which in computer systems are often realised automatically without active participation of the user, is emphasised to students. The article indicates the need of controlling tools in micro-enterprises, something impossible to implement in Poland due to the dominance of simplified forms of tax records. The type of accounting record chosen may stimulate or inhibit the development of entrepreneurship by encouraging or discouraging entrepreneurial behavior. The inclusion of process approach to teaching accounting will enable prospective mico-entrepreneurs to understand the role of financial information in making management decisions. The article justifies process approach to entrepreneurship education through the prism of accounting, tax and legal regulations, equipping students with practical skills to plan, conduct and develop their own business
